April 2009 Fun Day

BOXER CLUB OF WA – FUN DAY 19TH APRIL, 2009

Bandit’s First Fun Day (aged 5 months)

Bandit bounced a few times as he thought ‘Hey, cool, going in the car!’ He bounced again as he thought ‘Hey, great, we’re at the park!’

He spotted other dogs that he knew were Boxers, just like himself, and he thought ‘WOW!! More Boxers, wow!’

‘This is great fun’ he thought as he bounced around with some of the other Boxers, ‘I wish we could do this everyday!’

‘Hey, hang on, what’s going on now….oh wow, sausages, I love sausages, wonder what they’re doing on a bit of string….oh well, not there now! That was great!’

He found himself wearing a t shirt ‘What now? What’s this about I wonder….ah, more running and having fun, oh I’m supposed to keep this on not get it off…ha ha!’

‘Music, mmm, mats, mmm, more running, good fun, can I just stop and talk to this dog, oops no, maybe that one, no, oh well maybe later!’

‘Oh, no, that’s not fair, don’t want to go home….what? been here two hours, wow, that went quickly! Now you mention it, I do feel a bit tired, hope we do this again tomorrow……..zzzzz’

Bandit wasn’t the only one having fun that day, we had another great turn out with just lovely weather at 27 degrees (OK, maybe a little warm!). As always, there were Boxers of all ages, shapes and sizes, with people to match.

Tony did a great job cooking for the sausage sizzle, with Sue and Dawn serving up delicious hot dogs which were as popular as ever. If you haven’t been to one of our fun days, it’s worth coming along just for the food!!!

The raffle also went well. With a 15kg bag of Tuckertime Biscuits up for grabs, everyone wanted to buy some tickets. Congratulations to the winner who came to pick up the bag with the baby’s push chair, obviously having worked out that it’s far easier to carry the baby than a 15 kg bag! A big thank you to Hazel, a new member, for doing the rounds with the tickets.

There were lots of samples of Tuckertime rolls and biscuits to hand out, and some that were given as prizes in the games (as described by Bandit above!). We thank Tuckertime for sponsoring our Open Show on the day before, and for providing the samples for the Fun Day.

Vickie and Austin gave a great demonstration of obedience, and many in the audience were in awe of Austin’s abilities (and Vickie’s of course!!). If anyone would like advice on any aspects of training, please give one of us a ring, we’re all listed on the home page.

If you missed it this time, look out for details for the next one, which will be around October. We will advertise in our newsletter, as well as in the newspapers just beforehand.

Don’t forget to send in your membership application forms – that way you won’t miss out on the newsletter through the year.

Thanks to everyone for making it such a worthwhile event!
